No. DoseAlert works without an account, email, or sign-up. Open the app, add your medications, and you're set.
When you first install DoseAlert, you get 7 days of full access to every feature at no cost. No credit card is required. After 7 days, a one-time purchase of $9.99 unlocks the app forever. There is no subscription.
No. DoseAlert supports unlimited medications, during the trial and after purchase. There is no cap, tier, or premium upgrade required.
On the "Add medication" screen, tap "Scan prescription label." Point your camera at the label (or choose a photo from your library). DoseAlert reads the medication name, dosage, and frequency using on-device text recognition, then pre-fills the form. Review the results, correct anything if needed, and save. The photo is processed entirely on your device and immediately discarded.
This is almost always caused by your device's battery optimization settings killing DoseAlert in the background. Open DoseAlert, go to Settings, and tap "Fix missed reminders" for step-by-step instructions for your specific phone. Here are the most common fixes by brand:
Samsung: Settings > Battery > Background usage limits > Never sleeping apps > add DoseAlert. Also: Settings > Apps > DoseAlert > Battery > Unrestricted.
Xiaomi/MIUI: Settings > Apps > Manage apps > DoseAlert > Autostart (enable). Also: Security app > Permissions > Autostart > DoseAlert (enable).
Huawei: Settings > Battery > App launch > DoseAlert > Manage manually > enable all three toggles (Auto-launch, Secondary launch, Run in background).
OnePlus: Settings > Battery > Battery optimization > DoseAlert > Don't optimize.
Oppo/ColorOS: Settings > Battery > App Quick Freeze > DoseAlert (disable). Also: Settings > App Management > DoseAlert > Battery usage > Allow background activity.
Vivo: Settings > Battery > Background power consumption management > DoseAlert > Don't restrict.
iPhone: Make sure notifications are enabled in Settings > Notifications > DoseAlert. Enable Lock Screen, Notification Centre, and Banners. If reminders are still missing, restart your phone.

Each medication can have 1 to 4 escalating reminders. Each one can be: quiet (silent), with sound (standard notification), dose alarm (loud, persistent), or caregiver alert (notifies a family member). You configure these per medication. If you miss the first reminder, the next level fires automatically.
Yes. Each reminder shows action buttons on your lock screen: Taken, Later, and Skip. Tap one without opening the app. If you tap Later, a bottom sheet lets you choose when to be reminded again (15, 30, or 60 minutes) and whether it should be quiet or noisy.
Fixed: doses stay anchored to the original schedule. If you're supposed to take a pill at 8:00 AM every day, it stays at 8:00 AM regardless of when you actually take it. Floating: the next dose shifts based on when you actually take the current one. If you take your "every 8 hours" pill 2 hours late, the next one shifts 2 hours later. Use fixed for most medications, floating for medications where the interval between doses matters more than the clock time.
Yes. When adding a medication, choose the taper schedule option. You can set multiple steps with different doses and durations. For example: 40mg for 5 days, then 20mg for 5 days, then 10mg for 5 days. DoseAlert adjusts the reminders and dose amounts automatically as you move through each step.
Choose "As needed" when adding a medication. PRN medications don't have scheduled reminders. Instead, they appear in a separate "As needed" section on the home screen. Tap "Taken" when you take one. If you set a cooldown timer (e.g. 6 hours), DoseAlert shows a countdown so you know when you can take the next dose.
Yes. Choose "Cycle" when adding a medication and set the days on and days off. For example, 21 days on and 7 days off. DoseAlert tracks where you are in the cycle and only sends reminders during the active days.
Create a group like "Morning stack" or "Bedtime meds" and assign medications to it. You'll receive one notification for the entire group instead of separate ones for each pill. Tap "All taken" to log the entire group in one tap. A medication can belong to multiple groups.
When adding a medication, enter the total pills in the bottle and set a "remind when below" threshold. Each time you log a dose as taken, DoseAlert subtracts from the count. When the count drops below your threshold, you get a refill reminder.
If you can't remember whether you took a dose, tap "Not sure." It logs the dose as uncertain in your history without marking it as taken or skipped. This is better than guessing, and it gives your doctor accurate information about your adherence.
Go to Settings > Export dose history. DoseAlert generates a report you can share via email, messaging, or any other app on your phone. The report includes your medication list, dose history, and adherence data.
Yes. Tap the Family tab to create profiles for family members (like "Mom" or "Dad"). Each profile has its own medications, dose logs, and reminders. The family dashboard shows everyone's status at a glance. All data stays on your device.
Yes. All your data stays on your device. DoseAlert does not have servers, does not collect analytics, and does not share data with anyone. We cannot see your medications, doses, or any other information you enter. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Go to Settings > Back up data. DoseAlert creates a backup file that you can save via your phone's share sheet (email it to yourself, save to Files, send via messaging, etc.). To restore, share the backup file back to DoseAlert. You can also export your medication list and dose history as CSV spreadsheets.
If you delete DoseAlert without exporting a backup, all your data is permanently deleted with the app. We cannot recover it because we never had access to it. Use Settings > Back up data before uninstalling.
Go to Settings > Restore Purchases. This checks with the App Store or Play Store and restores your purchase at no cost. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID or Google account you used for the original purchase.
No. DoseAlert is a one-time purchase of $9.99. You pay once and get every feature forever. There is no monthly or annual subscription. There are no additional in-app purchases beyond the initial unlock.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by DoseAlert directly. For iPhone: visit reportaproblem.apple.com. For Android: open Google Play > Account > Purchase history > DoseAlert > Request a refund.
